PointClickCare, the leading cloud-based software vendor for the senior care market, was founded with a singular vision in mind – solving the global challenges of senior healthcare with technology. Since then, the Mississauga-based company has been making a meaningful impact on the lives of millions through its advancing of healthcare technology.

Solving Challenges in the Senior Care Industry

The company was founded in 1999 by brothers Mike Wessinger, CEO, and Dave Wessinger, President, who started out in the senior care industry, following their mother’s lead. Through her guidance and insight, they learned the gaps and inefficiencies that not only affect the viability of the care providers, but also the quality of care and services to seniors. Mike and Dave saw a need to improve and streamline care delivery for seniors and built an innovative software, specifically designed for the complexities of the senior care market.

In 2000, they introduced the first software as a service (SaaS) delivery model to the senior care industry. When Mike first came up with the concept for PointClickCare, the term ‘cloud’ hadn’t been coined yet and it was unclear that a SaaS delivery model was the way that enterprises wanted to purchase software.

The SaaS‐based delivery model not only changed the way care providers got paid, but it truly disrupted the market for the better. Under Mike and Dave’s leadership, PointClickCare has grown to be the leading Electronic Health Record (EHR) company in the senior care industry, and one of the largest privately held software companies in Canada, now reaching 21,000 customers.

Attracting the Best and Brightest in the Industry

From day one, we’ve made embracing diversity and inclusion a big part of what it means to work at PointClickCare, Mike explains. He recognizes that acquiring staff with a variety of backgrounds and beliefs strengthens the company’s culture and enhances the team’s performance – a philosophy that makes up the very fabric of the organization. An inclusive corporate culture helps attract and retain the right people, while strong leadership is fundamental to ensuring that PointClickCare’s vision and strategy is never compromised.

The company has established and maintained a culture that impacts performance across the organization, from the top‐down. This is reinforced every day with a leadership team that supports PointClickCare’s cultural values: “We Play to Win, Work Shouldn’t (Always) Suck, and We Take Care of the Customer.” The company’s founders understand the importance of taking care of their employees, because when you take care of employees, they will take care of your customers.

PointClickCare’s Plans for the Future

In September 2018, PointClickCare opened a new office in Waterloo, Ontario, which employs over 50 software engineers, allowing the company to tap into the region’s world-class tech scene and talent. Now, PointClickCare’s most recent expansion in downtown Toronto will add up to 100 new product developer and engineer positions to the company’s 1,500-person workforce, expanding its Canadian footprint even further.

“The Long Term and Post-Acute Care sector faces a number of challenges that can only be solved with innovative technology and software solutions,” says Mike Wessinger, CEO, PointClickCare. “We’re confident that Toronto’s world-class innovation ecosystem and tech talent will further strengthen PointClickCare’s ability to develop meaningful solutions to meet the challenges of senior care.” PointClickCare is committed to helping caregivers provide the level of care our seniors deserve and is excited to leverage the tech talent in Ontario to do just that.
