New hub will create more than 500 high-skilled jobs and strengthen Ontario's leadership in AI, software engineering and transportation technology

TORONTO, Ontario, September 16, 2026 – Invest Ontario joined Lyft today in celebrating the opening of its new office in downtown Toronto. The investment establishes Lyft's second-largest technology hub in North America after San Francisco and will create more than 500 high-skilled jobs in Ontario.

Located at First Canadian Place, the new 90,000-square-foot office marks a significant expansion of Lyft's Canadian operations and will serve as a hub for engineering, product development, marketing and AI transformation that supports the company’s continued investment in next generation mobility technologies.

The opening comes as the global transportation sector evolves toward more integrated, multimodal and technology-enabled platforms. Companies across the mobility industry are increasingly investing in artificial intelligence (AI), marketplace optimization, pricing algorithms and autonomous vehicle technologies to improve safety, efficiency and customer experience.

Toronto was selected for the expansion because of the city’s world-class talent and globally recognized innovation ecosystem. Combined with Ontario’s strengths in AI, machine learning, software development, transportation technology and robotics, Toronto offers Lyft access to the engineers, product developers and operations professionals needed to drive continued growth and innovation.

The new hub represents a strong vote of confidence in Ontario's workforce and innovation capacity. In addition to creating more than 500 high-skilled jobs, the investment strengthens the province's position as a North American centre for mobility innovation, software engineering and emerging transportation technologies.

Invest Ontario worked closely with Lyft throughout its site selection and expansion process, providing strategic advice and facilitating connections to leading post-secondary institutions, including the University of Toronto, the University of Waterloo and McMaster University. These relationships demonstrate the strength of Ontario's talent pipeline as Lyft evaluated options for expansion.

As global companies seek to expand their presence within the Canadian market, Ontario is proud to serve as jurisdiction of choice to support their growth and ambitions. Lyft’s expansion in Toronto signals a strong vote of confidence in the strength and reliability of our world-class workforce, AI leadership, and competitive business environment. We congratulate them on this milestone and look forward to seeing their technology hub reinforce Ontario’s global leadership in tech innovation.

Hon. Vic Fedeli

Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade

Toronto has been Lyft's gateway to growth beyond the US, enabling us to serve and connect communities across Ontario and all of Canada. We're excited to deepen our Canadian investment and presence with our new office, backed by the tremendous Canadian talent we're hiring.

Jerry Golden

Chief Policy Officer, Lyft

Competition for technology investment is global, and companies choose locations where they can innovate, grow and access the talent they need to scale. Lyft's expansion in Toronto reflects the strengths that set Ontario apart: a deep pool of engineering talent, leading research institutions and a collaborative innovation ecosystem. The result is more than 500 high-skilled jobs and a stronger foundation for the technologies that will shape how people move in the future.
