TORONTO, Ontario - Leading iGaming company, PointsBet, has opened an office in Toronto with support from the province’s investment attraction agency, Invest Ontario.

Its headquarters, located at the heart of Toronto’s entertainment district, will be home to over 50 new jobs to reinforce their Canadian presence.

“Our government is excited to welcome PointsBet to Ontario as part of their Canadian expansion,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. “Their investment in our province will create 50 new jobs in Toronto, sending a strong message that our province has the talent and skilled workforce needed for tech companies to thrive. Thank you to the team at PointsBet for choosing Ontario.”

PointsBet’s Canadian headquarters serves an important function of their operations, where they can scale, innovate, and capitalize on Ontario’s diverse workforce to create additional jobs in the future.

“Invest Ontario works with businesses deciding on the right jurisdiction for their new investments,” said Trevor Dauphinee, CEO of Invest Ontario. “We applaud PointsBet for recognizing the strength of Ontario’s technology sector and high-quality talent pool.”

Ontario is a leader in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, fintech and digital media. Its technology sector and innovation corridor are home to 25,000 firms that generate over $48.3 billion in GDP annually. With 63,500 STEM graduates every year, Toronto – along with Ottawa and Waterloo – are among the markets in North America with the largest tech talent.

“We believe that Ontario has the talent and workforce that can help us be at the forefront of iGaming in Canada,” said Scott Vanderwel, Chief Executive Officer of PointsBet Canada. “Our mission since the very beginning has been to build a homegrown sportsbook, with Canadian employees, for the Canadian market.”

PointsBet is one of the fastest growing operators in North America. The company was honoured in April as the top sports betting operator in the continent by eGaming Review, having won two years in a row. The award also recognized the company’s innovation efforts and its commitment to responsible gaming.

The province launched iGaming Ontario in April 2022 to regulate the new internet gaming market. The arrival of PointsBet and others legal operators is making iGaming safer for Ontarians.

“The official opening of PointsBet Canada’s new Toronto headquarters is a strong signal that businesses continue to choose Ontario as a place to invest and grow,” said Attorney General Doug Downey. “Since the launch of Ontario’s new iGaming market in April 2022, our government has continued to work with industry, responsible gaming advocates and regulatory partners to ensure Ontario is a world leader in building a safe online gaming environment that meets consumer expectations. PointsBet has been successful in bringing innovative offerings to its consumers, all while keeping safe play at the centre of its approach."

According to data from iGaming Ontario, the province’s total gaming revenue is estimated at $267 million across 24 operators and 42 gaming websites during the quarter of July 1 to September 30, 2022.
