Astra Zeneca is a innovative medicines company that develop and deliver medicines for Canadians and  patients around the world.

We focus in key areas like oncology, so cancer care, cardiovascular disease, respiratory and immunology, and rare diseases with our Alexion organization.

Narrator:
AstraZeneca leveraging AI to advance life-saving medicines in Ontario

Garret Tone:
This is an organization that has very bold ambitions.

Narrator:
Garret Tone - Executive Director, Life Sciences.

Garret Tone:
They're bringing over 20 new medicines to the world market by 2030. We supported this investment through site selection services, we supported it by bringing the necessary stakeholders both provincially, federally and municipally, to the table.

Gaby Bourbara:
The 820 million dollars is a significant investment in Canada and really will bring 700 high talent, high scientific jobs to the Canadian market place.

Narrator:
A press conference is held at the AstraZeneca office building in a large room filled with hundreds of staff members and press.

These are the jobs that the young people are coming out of our Universities and our Colleges and they see a bright future.

It was very evident that AstraZeneca and our Government were united in our ambitions to transform the future of healthcare.

The potential for Ontario is endless. When you've got these academic institutions, you’ve got these technological institutions, you have Universities coming together. That ecosystem is a great breeding ground for great talent, but also great ideas, and then great collaborations.

Invest Ontario have been great partners to AstraZeneca. The energy and belief and confidence that myself and all of our employees have in AstraZeneca and Invest Ontario partnering with AstraZeneca to deliver for Canadians is really, really exciting.

Garret Tone:
For Ontarians to contribute of the development of new medicines and to have a roll in that for a company like AstraZeneca is incredibly powerful and as Canadians I think I speak for everyone in saying were incredibly proud of that.
