ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
We are seeking a Senior Regional Advisor who will be accountable for building and maintaining relationships government and non-government partners and developing engagement strategies and services in support of the agency’s economic development priorities and strategic investments. This is a key position with a high level of responsibility, internal visibility, and impact. This is a level 7, unionized position represented by AMAPCEO.
Location: 250 Yonge Street, Toronto ON (hybrid – average 3 days per week in office)
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Stakeholder Relationships
- Responsible for building and maintaining relationships with local, regional partners and a network of broader government/non-government stakeholders to understand, facilitate and advocate for local economic development opportunities within specified regions in the province.
- Leads the research and coordination of engagement strategies and models, including jurisdictional comparisons, primary and secondary research and strategy development and recommendations.
- Manages relationships with external stakeholders to ensure active participation at executive and regional investment tables.
- Develops, implements, and monitors partnership agreements with key stakeholders as needed.
Investment Initiatives and Partnerships
- Plans, facilitates, and executes investment meetings and councils with management-level participants from a variety of government and non-government investment partners representing regions/local issues and prepare reporting for use and presentation at executive-level table.
- Works collaboratively with key stakeholders and teams within IvO to facilitate and coordinate IvO investment activities in the province.
- Leads projects to support the development of both financial and non-financial investment-specific incentive packages leveraging relationships and coordinating contributions across key partners in the province.
- Collaborates across functions within IvO on internal projects to improve reporting, decision-making, investor experience, and stakeholder experience.
- Coordinates and/or prepares a range of correspondence, briefing materials, presentations, reports, proposals and recommends proposed direction/actions, for consideration by the Director, VP and the CEO.
- Maintains a leading-edge awareness of emerging trends with direct impact on the agency’s interests.
- Support the entry and maintenance of data and partner information, including tracking and identifying trends, gaps, while working collaboratively with colleagues.
- Conducts research and prepares presentations and other documents on best practices and trends in economic development as it relates to engagement and governance of local economic development organizations.
Investment Negotiation Support
- Works within transaction-focused teams, consisting of; Business Intelligence and Transaction Analytics, Transaction Structuring, and Business Development functions, to identify key transaction stakeholders, their role/function within the transactions, and ensure a coordinated investor response via IvO.
- Through regular communication and collaboration, ensures that IvO is aware of the independent investment attraction activities of key stakeholders and identifies and escalates opportunities and conflicts accordingly.
- Represents Director on transaction-focused team when necessary.
WHAT IT TAKES TO BE SUCCESSFUL
Education and Experience
- University degree in Business Administration, Economics, Political Science or related field.
- At least 5-7 years’ experience working in economic development, intergovernmental affairs, investment attraction programs or related field, with experience in local or regional economic development strongly preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
- Excellent interpersonal, relationship management and partnership building skills with demonstrated ability to manage government stakeholder relationships and build partnerships across multiple levels of government and other key stakeholders and negotiate positive outcomes.
- Knowledge of the economic development policies and strategies that address Ontario’s competitive advantages for investment attraction purposes.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Ontario’s business sectors such as advanced manufacturing, life sciences and Information and Communications Technology as well as domestic and international markets.
- Political acuity and knowledge of environmental factors which impact sector competitiveness and business operations.
- Analytical, problem-solving, research and negotiation skills.
- Ability to apply critical thinking skills to act in alignment with IvO’s objectives.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including excellent presentation skills.
- High proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and work-specific software.
- Must have a valid G2 drivers' licence or equivalent.
