ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

Invest Ontario is seeking a proficient Senior Analytics Advisor with a strong solution-focused, project management orientation. This is a key position with high levels of responsibility, internal visibility, and impact across all business lines of the organization. This is a level 6, unionized position represented by AMAPCEO.

As the Senior Analytics Advisor, you will be accountable for providing senior level complex qualitative and quantitative research and analysis to support Invest Ontario’s mandate and to provide data analysis and methodological expertise in support of investment program development.

SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Research and Analytical Expertise

  • Conceptualize, develop, and conduct in-depth analysis and interpretation of data and statistics related to key sector activities using advanced knowledge of research techniques, analytics and statistical tools and approaches.
  • Provide senior level expertise to the development of approaches and methods (qualitative and quantitative) to define and address Invest Ontario’s (IvO) information needs relating to provincial economic development priorities and strategic investment opportunities through data analysis and analytical models.
  • Translate data and analytical results into insights with tangible, actionable solutions for decision making and produces a variety of analytical and technical reports, graphs, summaries, and presentations that showcase analytic results that align with the IvO’s mandate and strategic objectives.
  • Provide specialist advice on principles and techniques of data collection (structured and unstructured), information reliability and consistency, baseline measurement information, and streamlining of data sources; designs and implements data collection tools and processes according to best practices.
  • Proactively formulate novel approaches to detect emerging concerns and develops metrics with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)/Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) thresholds that monitor and alert for anomalies, outliers, and risks.
  • Provide expertise to the development and implementation of investment strategies by analyzing and monitoring results to determine impact on existing activities and strategies; provides insightful recommendations on performance results, including the impact of market factors and other drivers.
  • Work directly with senior management across the organization to understand their business needs and translate that into technical requirements that will provide functional solutions through an iterative process.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with data providers (e.g., Statistics Canada, etc.) and intergovernmental partners to assist with and provide input to the information requirements and for data sharing.
  • Conduct research to remain current on changing data and analytics trends, data sources, and tools; assesses the potential usefulness and validity of new approaches and data sources that will meet the data and information requirements of IvO.

Project Management

  • Lead research and analytic studies and develops research design and protocols, data collection methods and strategies for data management and implements project progress milestones and performance assessment criteria and metrics.
  • Develop and revise research instruments as necessary to ensure quality data that correlates with the research project deliverables.
  • Coordinate project documentation and the preparation of insightful research reports with actionable recommendations to support senior leadership decision making.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • University degree in Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics or other analytically based discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in data analytics with expertise in business analytics and predictive modeling.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of the government’s economic development policies and strategies that address competitiveness policies, issues, and priorities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge qualitative and quantitative research methodology and analytical techniques to conduct in-depth research and statistical and qualitative analysis.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of statistics and statistical methodologies and software (e.g., SAS, SPSS, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of advanced analytics tools and languages to analyze large data sets from multiple data sources.
  • Knowledge of performance measurement techniques and tools and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Knowledge of data visualization techniques.
  • Strong project management and problem - solving skills
  • Advanced analytical skills, including the ability to think strategically.
  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex analytical concepts to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize changeable workload ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Technical proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and work-specific software and databases.
