Mondelez Canada invests to expand Hamilton candy plant Sour Patch Kids, Swedish Fish, and Fuzzy Peaches, oh my! Mondelez Canada has invested $40 million to expand its existing candy plant in Hamilton, Ontario. The enhancements have allowed the company to increase production by 11 million candy pieces each day. Mondelez Canada has been producing candy in Hamilton since the late 1960’s. As a result of its long-term success, the site has expanded by 15,000 sq. ft. to a total of 225,000 sq.ft. The factory will continue to make more than 40 types of candy for consumers around Canada and the U.S. Equipped with the latest manufacturing technology, the new line is creating 50 highly skilled jobs. This is in addition to the existing 300 jobs at the plant. “We not only bring state-of-the-art equipment to Ontario, but also have the opportunity to increase the skills of our people in new and exciting ways,” says Martin Parent, President of Mondelez Canada. “All of this will enable us to remain globally competitive while helping to grow Ontario’s agri-food exports.” Mondelez Canada is proud to make Maynards candy at such an efficient factory here in the heart of Hamilton. “With this new line, Hamilton leads the way in advanced food manufacturing; and we remain committed to making Canada’s favourite - and we think most delicious – candy right here in Ontario.” Beyond Hamilton, the company has recently invested $250 million in other Ontario factories. This includes $130M to its East York bakery, Scarborough bakery, Gladstone chocolate factory, and Bertrand Halls plant. These plants produce world-famous brands, including OREO, Chips Ahoy!, Dad’s, Peek Freans, Mr. Christie, Cadbury, Caramilk, HALLS, and Maynards candy. “It is important that where we can, we make and bake locally – especially our local heritage brands such as Sour Patch Kids, which are made in Hamilton.
